Birds and Trails, the sequel

I thought my first blog post should be an introduction of myself, and how this blog came to be. I recently moved to northeast Wyoming from northern New York, where I lived in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains for the last ten years. I am an avid hiker, birdwatcher, and paddler and spend a great deal of time in the outdoors. I started a blog called Adirondack Birds and Trails a few years ago simply out of boredom in the winter months and found it to be a very rewarding use of my time. The blog allowed me not only to share my experiences with friends and family, but also to reach out to a number of people I didn't know who found my blog useful to planning their own adventures. Based on the success of that blog I decided to continue sharing my stories in my new home, where there are endless mountain ranges to explore. In my new location I suspect this blog will be more about hiking than birding for most of the year, but I try to include bird sightings in all my posts even if birding wasn't the primary goal of my hike, as well as any other wildlife and plants that I encounter.

I named the blog "Wild West" birds and trails because I know that my wandering spirit will be exploring not just Wyoming, but many of the states around it. I live between the Big Horns in Wyoming and the Black Hills in South Dakota, and already my adventures have brought me to southern Wyoming and northern Colorado. The wild west has so many places to explore, I look forward to getting to know the birds and trails around here and hope that you will enjoy reading about it!
